The Art of Baking Bread

Baking bread really is an art form. Even though it consists of only a few elements it can easily be ruined. My Grandma made the best homemade bread. It wasn't anything fancy, just plain ole white bread. However, it was the best homemade bread. I still remember what her house smelled like. Making bread is always something I have wanted to learn but just haven't put in the effort. However, I am currently jumping in head first but am not expecting perfection. Normally I get discouraged when my food doesn't turn out but I understand bread takes practice so I am going pretty easy on myself.

My first try was pretty bad. I did so many things wrong. A big one being, time. Nap time happened right in the middle of it rising. I wasn't going to wake her for some dough. The end product was edible but bad. My second try fared a little better. Doesn't it look pretty?

The end product still ended up in the trash for the most part. My dinner rolls were more like rocks and my bread had a really hard crust and the bread was too moist. My daughter seemed to enjoy it. Which was funny because she doesn't normally care for bread.

For try three I am going to try a recipe out of my bread book and keep my fingers crossed. I love the idea of homemade bread. If you can make it well it beats store bought every time.

  1. Well, it looks good. If you want Grandma's Bread book, let me know. It only holds sentimental value now that I cannot eat gluten.

  2. Not a chance. That is yours. Sentimental value beats out resourcefulness every time.
