Pay Attention

I have one huge fault in the kitchen and that is that I don't pay attention to the little things. I don't always shut the freezer door all the way (luckily it has an alarm that goes off if it thinks it has been open too long). I often forget to turn the oven and burners off when I am done with them. Don't think this means I am a bad cook because I am not. I pay attention to my food but not how close the wooden spoon is to the flame (sorry Janice). I realized in the past couple days that I need to start paying attention.

My daughter is growing like a weed. She is tall. She can pull her self to stand just about anywhere. She is curious about everything especially the things that are not where she can get to them. Do you see where this is going? Here are a couple shots from my kitchen the other morning as I was making us breakfast.

As I was cooking and my daughter was reaching up I realized I need to start making sure the handles aren't hanging over. Then I looked around and realized I also need to make sure the drying towel isn't hanging over the counter where she can pull on it and bring all the knives and pans crashing down. Lastly, I don't normally watch how I lay things. It isn't unusual for me to leave a knife like this, often I bump it and jump back as it hits the floor. Can't do that anymore. Got to start paying attention not only for her safety but also so she can learn how to be safe once she starts being my kitchen helper.

  1. I do those things also! My toes have seen more close calls than they care for. However, when Wookie came I realized how big of a problem the whole knife thing could be and am much more careful about that!
